Sometime in the early 1940s, when I was only four or five, Max Fleischer’s second full length animated feature, “Mr. Bug Goes To Town” burned itself into my mind. Beginning with Disney’s “Pinocchio” and “Fantasia,” and followed by Fleischer’s “Gulliver’s Travels” and “Mr. Bug Goes To Town,” these four movies forged my destiny. Reliving those times, I, just now, realized that an insect, Jiminy Cricket was the very first animated entity I ever saw spring to Technicolor life, upon the silver screen. No wonder, bugs seemed all right to me. It never crossed my mind, until it was too late, that creepy crawly critters with six or eight legs might not be everybody’s cup of tea.
