In 1983, after twenty years of hibernation sheltered from reality in the cloistered halls of Colorforms, “The Weenies” were my introduction to the high stakes world of Toy Invention. Now, at this late date, should I allow the World to see this cornucopia of artwork that ultimately went to waste? Time is flying faster these days and with each fleeting hour I realize that it may be now or never. So with a certain amount of trepidation I’ve decided to open up Pandora’s box.
Pandora’s boxes, I should say, for throughout this enormous schoolhouse Weenies stuff is everywhere. Even after 30 years, huge portfolios still lean against the walls, boxes of every size and shape, some marked Weenies, some with no markings at all, are stashed in the basement or stored under the floor upstairs. I’ve been moving these around and ignoring them since 1985. Now, I will seek them out and add their contents to this website, one page at a time.
What memories do these boxes hide? Many pleasant ones, I hope, and also the lingering pain of a heartbreaking ending. But, most of all, they contain vast quantities of artwork. No project "KISCOM" ever dared to undertake, before or since, has generated so much art. And all of it was pretty Great! But, none of it was decreed by Fate to ever see the light of day.
Meanwhile, my partners believe that even after all these years, of all the projects we ever did, the Weenies still have viability today. So, I’ll attempt to put them on display. And if you choose to follow me, I’ll lead you on a Guided Tour of “Bunville” to explore the Secret World of Weenies.
